Lemur Autovision™ consists of a keychain LCD and a sensor to display, a driver’s maximum speed, distance traveled and excessive braking. Parents can use Lemur Autovision™ to monitor their teen’s driving behaviour.
The Lemur Autovision™ sensor requests information from the car’s OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics) port and wirelessly transmits the calculated statistics to the keychain for display on the LCD.
Yes. The Lemur Autovision™ has been tested on the most popular vehicle models in the US and Canada. There have been no recorded vehicle performance issues.
No. The device is password (PIN) protected. If someone tries to alter the device settings, or removes the sensor, the keychain LCD displays a Tamper message.
Lemur Autovision™ is self-installed, no need for a mechanic. It consists of two components; a small sensor and a keychain LCD. The sensor attaches to the OBD-II port in your car, near the steering wheel and the keychain connects to your keys. Please download the User’s Manual for more detailed information.
The device would show all zeroes if not used at all. The sensor tracks all activity regardless of where the keychain happens to be. Data is updated to the LCD when it comes back into range.
Traffic fatality is the number one cause of death among teenagers (not drugs, guns, alcohol, obesity or STDs). Many parents are unaware of the risks their teen faces in their first 6-12 months of unsupervised driving. While driving with a parent or instructor, a novice driver shares the same risk of collision as the average driver. Once they get licensed, and start driving unsupervised, this risk of collision increases dramatically. An increase of almost 6 times the national average. Add a couple of their friends to the mix, and this risk sky-rockets.
Many parents would state that they trust their responsible son or daughter, or that drugs and alcohol are often factors in accidents. First of all, there is no specific demographic for teen collisions. Science has proven that a teenager’s brain is not yet fully developed to cope with risk, so where an adult might see danger, a teen quite often does not. Alcohol is a factor in less than 25% of all teen collisions. That leaves 75% of collisions caused by speeding, driver inexperience, driver distraction and inattention.
These are the three key elements in most teen collisions. Lemur Autovision™ lets the parent monitor maximum speed, total distance travelled and number of sudden brakes for each trip in the car. Braking events relate directly to tailgating, inattention and driving distraction.
Teens must be made aware that there will be repercussions for both positive and negative driving behaviour. They must also understand the GDL requirements and that they exist for their own benefit. That there are inherent risks associated with speeding, driver distraction, and their own relative inexperience. Each time a teen driver returns home with the car during their first year (or 1000 miles) of unsupervised driving, parents need to be diligent in reviewing their child’s driving performance with Lemur Autovision™. The data on the LCD will determine if their child has been speeding, driving too far, or experiencing road events causing them to suddenly brake too often (distraction, texting, tailgating, inattention). Teens now know that they are being monitored, and will adjust their driving accordingly.
Do parents consider it spying when their teenager brings home their school report card? Lemur Autovision™ is providing very basic driver feedback and helps parents measure their child’s progress behind the wheel. Teens are also aware that the device is being used to help in their learning experience. Driving independence still means driving responsibly. The consequences of poor driving habits can be significantly more costly than poor grades at school.
